Author Michela Wrong

Summary This book starts out by recounting the author's experience at an airport in Cairo. A passenger asked her where she's going and when she told him Eritrea, he did not know where in the world it is. The author conducts interviews with Eritrean fighters, former American GI's who served in Kagnew Base during the Vietnam War, and one member of the Eritrean cabinet who signed off on the annexation in 1962. The author also mentions that her grandfather was Italian and that she feels right at home in Asmara. For the most part the book is very informative. However, there are some assumptions and generalizations.

Summary I read this book on my first summer break in college. I had bought it several months earlier and it was just sitting on the shelf for a while. I actually decided to read it just so that I wouldn't feel guilty every time I saw it. It took me a while to understand the plot in the first few pages. But it slowly got clearer.
